UNITED IS THE WAY

Our Mission

The United Way of Virginia is dedicated to mobilizing the caring power of communities to improve health, education, and financial stability for low-income children, families, and individuals. As part of a global network of nearly 1,800 United Way organizations, we focus on innovative solutions to local challenges, striving for lasting, systemic change rather than temporary fixes.

Our work is driven by the passion of 2.8 million volunteers and the generosity of 9.8 million donors worldwide. We believe in the power of community collaboration, partnering with individuals, businesses, school districts, private foundations, the public sector, and other community organizations to address local problems and meet community needs.

United Way of Virginia emphasizes the building blocks for a good life and a strong community: education, financial stability, and health. Every day, our volunteers, donors, and advocates make a difference by helping children learn to read, providing access to quality medical care, supporting job training programs, and much more.

We support and empower Virginians, ensuring that our efforts are tailored to the unique needs of communities across the commonwealth. We work closely with local partners to deliver holistic solutions that break the cycle of poverty and create lasting positive change. By addressing the real struggles our people face, we aim to create an community where everyone has the opportunity to live their best life, get an education, and be healthy and financially stable. By working together, we aim to create lasting positive change and ensure that all individuals can thrive.
