Who We Are

We are the gamechangers – the difference makers. United Ways are independent nonprofits that bring together people and organizations to focus on innovative solutions to local challenges. Together, the 17 Virginia United Ways and their partners positively improve the lives of millions of people in Virginia each year. We go beyond a temporary fix to focus on lasting change.

At the United Way of Virginia, we believe in empowering all individuals and families to live their best life. Our dedicated team of professionals works tirelessly to address the root causes of social issues, providing crucial support and resources to those who need it most. From education and employment assistance to healthcare and housing initiatives, we are committed to creating a brighter future for all.

Mission

The United Way of Virginia leverages the collective power and resources of 17 Virginia United Way networks and hundreds of localized programs to improve the lives of low-income individuals across the commonwealth. It plays a critical role in the statewide human-service infrastructure by providing leadership, identifying local community needs, and collaborating with public and private stakeholders to create lasting change. These partnerships develop powerful tailored solutions to current and emerging issues in individual communities, which can drive greater impact, reduce costs, generate revenue, and create efficiencies.
